STANDING STONE WINES - A Blend of Local Flavors and Social Responsibility

Jan 29, 2024 05:05PM ● By KAREN CASSIDY
If the answer is yes, check out STANDING STONE WINES , located in The Rotary in Winooski. It is a BIPOC woman-owned shop that specializes in $10-$20 bottles of wine. But don’t worry, it stocks the fancy stuff too!

Lil Sickles is the owner of Standing Stone Wines, and she is an Oneida Indian, People of the Standing Stone. With over 25 years of purchasing, selling, and wine education experience, Lil wants to make the wine-buying process fun and easy for her customers.

“So many friends tell me how intimidated they are when they shop for wine, but wine should be fun!” says Lil. She works hard to bring customers the best bottle for their buck at every price point, so they can grab an everyday delight or treat themselves to something special.

LOCAL AND ORGANIC

Lil finds wines from as many family and small wineries as she can while also keeping all the wines she sells as organic as possible. “Almost all of our wines are made using organic practices, and we carry natural and minimal-intervention wine.”

Standing Stone Wines always tries to highlight other local businesses and bring in as many local products as possible. Supporting local artists and craftspeople is very important to Standing Stone Wines.

Lil cares very much about giving back and has made it an important part of her business mission to donate a portion of wine sales to a different indigenous cause each month.

“After being the recipient of incredible generosity during cancer treatment in 2019 and 2021, I knew that when I opened my store, I wanted to pay it forward in some way.”

WINE CLUB

Do you like trying new wines? Standing Stone Wines has a new wine club. What’s more exciting for a wine lover than knowing that each month brings at least two bottles of fun new wines to try? Its wine club options range from $30-$75 per month, depending on what you’re looking for.

LOOKING FOR A PERFECT GIFT?

Standing Stone Wines has a great selection of locally crafted gift boxes available. These gift boxes support local women crafters and feature some of your favorite wines. You can even shop online, and then pick it up later during business hours.
